The IIM Research Centre is in charge of the coordination and administration of the PAM, a project leaded by the IIM, in partnership with about thirty French heritage and contemporary creation structures.
The PAM contains tens of thousands of archives, linked up to each other with documentary files on artists, companies, shows, lexica.
The PAM will eventually be trilingual, and will connect news of the arts of puppetry with archives and catalogues from specialised documentation centres, and today is open to other European partners.
In 2008, eight French institutions linked to puppetry responded to the call for projects by the Minister of Culture and Communication within the national plan of digitalisation, during the dynamic initiated by the "Saisons de la Marionnette 2007-2010".
Nowadays, the PAM is made up of 21 partners that form a regional network, for which the collections represent the practices and arts of puppet, object theatre, shadow theatre, paper theatre and associated arts, as much as in their heritage dimension than in the contemporary creation dimension.
For any field, the PAM aims at creating links between our arts and spreading our practices, our places, our audience; stimulating curiosity.
What can be found on the PAM?
From 2011, there are 30,000 pictures, engravings, posters, sketches, videos, sound recordings, periodicals, manuscripts, stage direction notes.
Apart from the documents that are described and put on-line, the PAM is a place of editorial, scientific, educational reflection:
- notes « Identités » about the artists, the companies, the institutions, the characters
- notes « Événements » about shows, festivals, symposia, exhibitions
- notes about the puppetry vocabulary in different languages
- thematical files
- bibliographies, filmographies, web links
- a puppetry book
- a discussion forum
- a puppetry schedule is planned
As the history and the contemporary reality of puppetry are only meaningfulon on an international level, the PAM is to be a place of French and European partnership, in an interface that will become bilingual by degrees - French and English.
The project is led by the Institut International de la Marionnette and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts de la Marionnette (Charleville-Mézières),
In partnership with the Bouffou Théâtre à la Coque, the Centre des monuments nationaux, the Musée Comtois / Ville de Besançon, the Musée des marionnettes du monde (Gadagne musées) / Ville de Lyon, Odradek / Cie Pupella-Noguès, the Théâtre Jeune Public de Strasbourg / CDN d'Alsace;
