After four intensive years of constant commitment serving the Institut International de la Marionnette and being part of a remarkable historical sequence where we have seen puppetry become a trade recognized by Law, the creation of a State-certified diploma for the puppeteer actor - the Diplôme National Supérieur Professionnel, the accelerated rhythm for recruitment at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts de la Marionnette bringing about the overlapping of two classes, the inauguration of a new building for this school and the creation of ICiMa Chair, Eloi Recoing is now stepping down and will leave his post next August 31st.

The Institut International de la Marionnette is seeking its DIRECTOR

Since its creation in 1981, the Institut International de la Marionnette, a French institution with an international dimension, has been supporting the development of puppetry arts in the spheres of training, research and creation: ESNAM - École Nationale Supérieure des Arts de la Marionnette - for initial training, continuing education courses, a professional insertion programme and a policy for hosting residencies; the Research Centre, coordinating the Institute's editorial, scientific, cultural heritage and documentary activities, coordination of the Puppetry Arts Portal (PAM), and the co-direction of the ICiMa Chair.
The Institute is funded by the Ministry of Culture, the Région Grand Est, the Ardennes departmental council and the City of Charleville-Mézières and is provided with an annual budget of around € 2 million.


• Designing, defining and implementing a development plan in all of its aspects
• Maintaining the connection between training, research and creation at the Institute
• Managing and continuing with the development of the Institute by optimizing its human resources, logistic and financial
• Vitalizing the international dimension of the Institute's activities
• Developing the offering for training and the professional insertion policy in liaison with public and professional partners
• Reinforcing the prestige of the Research Centre and bringing about its establishment in the context of the Cité des Arts de la Marionnette project
• Working towards carrying out shared means and actions with the Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes for the creation of a centre of reference for puppetry at international, national and territorial levels
• Leading a team of 17 permanent staff members and thirty or so regular or periodic instructors per year


Profile and experience
Confirmed professional, recognized artist or cultural operator in the French and international professional network, she or he will possess an in-depth knowledge of performance arts and the cultural, socio-economic and political issues associated with creation, training and research.
The candidate will be well-versed in management tools and techniques and capable of leading a development plan by generating synergies with the Institute's diverse partners. Endowed with interpersonal skills, he or she will have demonstrated dynamism and his or her capacity to stimulate multidisciplinary teams.
She or he will have an excellent working knowledge of IT tools and software, speak fluent French and English. Knowledge of other languages (Spanish, German or others) would be a plus.


Terms for employment and remuneration
Full-time permanent contract, based in Charleville-Mézières, France
Assumption of duties: September 1, 2018
Remuneration on the basis of the artistic and cultural enterprises collective bargaining agreement (group 1)
